Things to do on the Seashore

A year-round recreation destination for swimming, walking, surfing, windsurfing, picnicking and biking, Cape Code National Seashore is host to thousands of visitors each year. Throughout the year visitors can explore the park with ranger led tours and programs to suit all levels of activity and interest.

Ranger Guided tours of the shore

Throughout the year, NPS Rangers conduct programs including talks, walks, bike rides, and narrated hikes. Tours begin daily in the visitor's center and start with a short orientation film about the history of the seashore.


  • What are the ‘Sensitive Areas' of the Seashore?

    Unless marked by the park service, most of the National Seashore is open to visitors. However, some areas are sensitive by nature and are prohibited for exploration. These areas include the following: areas where protected species are nesting, areas that are fragile and may be degraded by frequent visitors, areas where unusual archaeological resources may be found or damaged by foot traffic.
  • What is Wellfleet pier?

    For access to the public beaches by vehicle, pick up your auto beach sticker at Wellfleet Pier. Bring proof of your auto registration, your rental property permit, and $60 for a week pass. While at the pier, you can rent a sailboat, play basketball and tennis, or enjoy a picnic of burgers, clams and ice cream from local vendors.
